Oh Munich, you are so beautiful, so charming, and still so new. Every time I trip over cobblestone, every time I hear the ring of the church bells, I cherish the blessing it is to re-adjust to life, in a whole new world. Life abroad feels in many ways like being a child again. What a blessing for an American to live in an old European city. The newness of it all is fun but in all fairness, raising a child without the help of your family is not exactly ideal. I am sure many of you reading this can relate.
Undergoing pregnancy, childbirth, and motherhood is hard enough even when you have your home community. It may seem impossible to do this alone and the good news is, you don't have to do it alone! Luckily there is an abundance of English resources and communities in Munich!
Pregnancy charges us with powerful hormones that make us rather sensitive at times. Some of you may have noticed, Germans can be a bit to themselves. As a matter of fact over one-third of the German population lives alone and in Munich this rate is even higher. There are so many cultures you can connect to in Munich. English is the international language and Munich is a very international city. Believe it or not many Germans speak English! That's right! English is taught in school at a young age.
I get it... you are pregnant, overwhelmed, and just want everything as convenient as it would be at home. This delicate time of your life is hard as it is...
I promise you that your tribe is here... ready to take you in with open arms! It only takes a little bit of effort on your part. You just have to get out there.
